Mahesh Bhatt
Mahesh Bhatt is an Indian filmmaker who has made many well-known films in both mainstream and parallel Hindi Cinemas. His films have received many national and international awards, some of the most prominent being Arth (1982), Saaransh (1984), Aashiqui (1990), Murder (2004), and Gangster (2006).
Life and Early Work
Mahesh Bhatt was born in Bombay on 20 September 1948. He completed his schooling from Don Bosco High School, and he also used to work while he was studying in the school. On one such occasion, he was introduced to Raj Khosla. In the later years, Bhatt got married to the first wife of Raj Khosla. His own love story inspired him to make the movie Aashiqui. After a failed marriage with Kiran Bhatt, Bhatt married Soni Razdan in 1986. He had four children from both marriages.
Mahesh Bhatt started his career at an early age. He made an entry into the film industry when he was just 26 years old. This was also the time when he directed his first movie – Manzilein Aur Bhi Hai. From here onwards, he received a lot of popularity and success for his work.
Filmmaking
Mahesh Bhatt made an early start, and the success of his movies also encouraged him to work in more movies. For his work, he has often been inspired by books and other films as well. He directed many remakes as well. Some of his movies are based on western movies like Waterfront; It Happened One Night, An American Werewolf in London, and The Fugitive. In 2018, he also made his acting debut with The Dark Side of Life: Mumbai City. Apart from being involved with directors, he has also been engaged with scriptwriting. Until now, he directed a total of 47 movies, produced 18 films, and wrote scripts of 25 films.
